Scarlett June: July 24, 2012

This morning, Jon gave Scarlett a blessing. The doctor was going to start her on caffeine and steroids today to open up her airway and reduce inflammation in preparation for removing her ET tube (breathing tube). I was comforted by his blessing and hope and pray for the best.

Today when they gave Scarlett her dose of phenobarb for the seizures, they said her breathing stopped for a few minutes. They were able to bag her and get oxygen to her lungs that way, but that is something you don't want to hear as a mom. Dr. Simmons had told us the day before that phenobarb can sedate a baby to the point of stopping their breathing for a minute. Luckily Scarlett started breathing again on her own.

She's been spitting up a bit with her feedings lately. They are still keeping her around 20ccs.

Her left leg (the one that is broken) was a bit swollen today. They are keeping it propped up to hopefully reduce that.

We are still waiting on the microarray test, karyotype and myotonic dystrophy testing. It feels like an eternity getting those test results back.

And today we got the results of the MRI. They found areas in her brain where there is old hemorrhaging, meaning she had a lack of oxygen sometime in utero. The doctor said it will heal over time and they will redo an MRI in a few weeks to see how things look.

Jon and I have never felt like we've needed more patience and understanding. To me, this trial feels like a test of my faith and willingness of accepting the Lord's will. We want the best for our Scarlett, but know that Heavenly Father may have something else in store for her.
