the good ole days

Often times, I daydream what it would be like to live as my ancestors did in the 1800's. Although I know it was hard work and everyone had to do their part in order to survive, I wonder if they got a glimpse into our lives today, would they really want to live during our time or would they prefer their simple lives instead?

Sometimes I'd prefer more or a pioneer lifestyle- just with flushing toilets, washing machines and maybe a Crispy Kit Kat bar here and there:)

We got to enjoy some of that pioneer goodness over the weekend up at the Bear River festivals.

The fish pond would have been more fun for Jaina if she would have gotten the princess hair that her cousin got, but instead, she got some lame stickers. We are trying to teach her to be grateful for whatever she gets, but boy is it hard!

the hamburgers and hotdogs were delicious!

and the bouncy slides were pretty great too!

We also went to Jon's parents house and enjoyed a delicious dutch oven dinner, s'mores and lots of family to talk and laugh with!

Grey and Austin hangin' out in their diapers.

and at the end of the day, the kids loved taking a bath with their cousins in Papa and Grandma Pearson's new jetted bathtub!

On Sunday, we went to listen to my dad's talk in church. It was such a good talk! I loved learning about my pioneer ancestors and what good people they were. It's was interesting to learn that they struggled with similar things that we do today.

Afterwards we went to my brothers home and had a good ole pioneer meal. It was so fun to sit and chat and let the kids play with their cousins.

It was a great weekend, and one day, I hope our family looks back and reflects on our fun family traditions on pioneer day and that they can see the wonderful heritage they came from.

I agree...sometimes I would love more of a pioneer lifestyle. But I love flushing toilets and everything else we have. :) You are such a beautiful mother. It was so fun to see you on Sunday, and I am counting on the candy factory whenever it's good for you guys!

Mandi, I have to tell you, I love your blog so much. Jeff just walked by and asked me why I was smiling, and I realized that it was because I was enjoying your blog so much! It makes me happy to read it! Thanks for your example, I hope I grow up to be like you :)
